Why you should NOT raise money right now (and a few reasons why you maybe still should )

Hear authentic personal experiences and get candid answers from Josh Devon, an entrepreneur who raised millions from brand name VCs and David Luk, a long-time startup investor who now provides rescue capital to startups as a managing partner of Palm Venture Studios (www.palmventurestudios.com).

We’ll be discussing the pros and cons of raising money (from VCs, strategics, family offices, angels and others), lessons learned, and today’s market, followed by an open forum Q&A moderated by Dave Schneider of Philly Tech Entrepreneurs.

Keynote Speakers:

Josh Devon:
Bio
Josh is a serial founder and ex-COO of cybersecurity company Flashpoint, the global leader in threat intelligence. He’s scaled from $0-100M and raised $80M from top-tier investors like Greycroft, Bloomberg Beta, Georgian, Jump Capital, and Leaders Fund. Josh is an angel investor and currently advises founders and leaders navigating rapid growth to continued success. He lives in Philadelphia with his spouse, two kids, and two goldendoodles.

David Luk:
Bio
David has been in the Philadelphia tech and entrepreneurship ecosystem for over 20 years, having been a tech investment banker at Fairmount Partners, strategy consultant at McKinsey, and software VC investor at Safeguard Scientifics.

More recently, he was Chief Revenue Officer at HeavyWater, a FinTech AI company sold to Black Knight (NYSE: BKI) in 2018, and CEO at EmmaWell, a maternal mental health digital platform.

He currently is Managing Partner at Palm Venture Studios, a group of investors and operators looking to invest in distressed, tech-enabled startups / assets across the U.S. We’re backed by a family office and currently deploying from our $90M fund.

David brings a unique perspective on startup financing, having previously invested $5-$15M per deal in Series A-C companies as a VC investor, bootstrapped and self-funded a startup to exit, and now focused on providing new equity capital to startups that had previously raised significant venture rounds.
